Well....I have to start out with the biggest news of the week.. WE MOVED TO ISLE OF CAPRI. Now, I know that this might not have the biggest significance to most of you, but I am so stoked. There are chinese people all over the place! On the streets, in the malls, at the unis. Like everywhere. So we just go and talk to all of them! It is so so fun! Hahaha we also moved in with Elder Henson and Elder Li this morning. So we are going to have a blast cause I have already been both of their companions, so I know them and love them heaps. So success is on the horizon! I can feel it!
The new missionary that I have been chosen to train is named Elder Zhang! He is from China in the north, so he has a pretty strong accent. All my Taiwanese friends speak crystal clear, but Elder Zhangs tones are pretty bad and he adds weird sounds in the middle of what he is saying....if you don't believe me then just find someone from Beijing and ask them to speak to you in mandarin. Hahaha that would be a fun experiment. Anyway, Elder Zhang has heaps of potential and he is only a convert of one year, so I hope that our time together can teach him what he needs to know about being a missionary and about the gospel.
The other day in sunday school, we didn't have a teacher, so I gave him a gospel principles book and told him he was teaching...so he started going and it was a pretty complicated topic about the aaronic and melchesidek preisthood. He started to ask questions that he didn't know the asnwer too and the class just all started to share and we all learned together. By the end he was like.... I think I've learned more teaching than the rest of you have listening. So that was really good and I was pretty stoked beacause I understood a deep doctrine conversation about the decendants of Levi all in Chinese. haha good times.
Anyway, we have a pretty solid potential here all ready that is looking for a church to join and wants to be Christian...when we find people like that, we are just like "OH...we can help you with that!!!!!!!!!!" Hahahha anyway, we're pretty stoked to meet with here and hopefully get her progressing! Her name is Gretal!
Well that is about all from the land of IOC today. Have a good week! And happy conference!
Elder Jackson
Hey the new companion is from China! He is from north place...sorry thats how it translates ;) Hahaha but he has a seriously thick accent. When he speaks really fast I am just like...huh? And then he slows down and I can mostly figure out what on earth he is saying. But he is really good. Like most from China, he is an only child. So he is fairly entitled and just kind of assumes that everything is going to fall into place if we don't do anything. So ....once again. I testify that I will have more than 1 child. At least I hope hahahaha. in other news. WE MOVED TO ISLE OF CAPRI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so stoked. There are Chinese people everywhere here. We already have like 10 phone numbers and 3 solid potentials for next week. So we are hoping to keep getting out there and finding some people to teach and then finally do some baptizing. That is the other thing with my companion. Elder Zhang is his name. He is really worried about scores and numbers. He has already started making assumtions of missionaries based on the number of baptisms that they have had. I know that scores are a huge thing in Chinese culture, but I didn't realize just how bad it is. I asked him which he would rather do: Be obedient and not baptize or not be obedient and baptize. His immediate response was the later. He also has some exact obedience issues that just come with his nature and the adjustment, but I am opptomistic that Heavenly Father will help me work out those kinks. I'm not trying to put him down or anything either, cause he actually has taken to the water pretty fast. And when I told him it was time for Language Study, he was like "What's that?" Hahahha so yeah. Crazy.
